The Medical Laboratory Technology Department at Karbala Polytechnic College organized a specialized training course titled “ELISA Technique and its Use in Microbial Diagnosis,” which lasted for five days. Its lectures were presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Bilqis Saadoun Jassim, Asst. Lect. Mohammed Majid Hamid, and Asst. Lect. Hussein Ali Razzouqi.
The course included a detailed scientific explanation of the working principle of the ELISA technique, which is considered one of the most important immunological tests used in laboratory diagnosis, particularly in detecting diseases of microbial origin, such as bacterial and viral infections. It also covered the mechanism of the specific interaction between antibodies and antigens, and the role of associated enzymes in producing the color reaction that facilitates the detection process.
The course reviewed the basic types of this technique, including: Direct ELISA, Indirect ELISA, Competitive ELISA, and Sandwich ELISA, which is the most widely used in clinical examinations.
The holding of this course comes within the framework of the department’s endeavor to enhance the participants’ practical and scientific skills in the field of immunological diagnosis, and to supply medical laboratories with cadres capable of dealing with the latest approved technologies in the health field.
