Within the framework of Karbala Polytechnic College’s interest in enhancing responsible media presence and keeping pace with the transformations witnessed by digital communication, the Director of the Media and Government Communication Division, media researcher Assistant Lecturer Kamal Ali Al-Fatlawi, conducted a press interview with “Ataa Al-Shabab” magazine, which is affiliated with the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine. In the interview, he addressed the phenomenon of rumors in the digital environment and the transformations that have occurred in the concept of journalistic credibility in light of the massive acceleration in information circulation.
The dialogue focused on the nature of digital rumors and the mechanisms of their spread across social media platforms, as well as the change brought about by the digital environment in the role of the recipient. The recipient is no longer merely a consumer of information, but has become an active party in its production and republication, which imposes new challenges on media institutions and journalists in verifying information and confronting misleading content.
During the interview, Al-Fatlawi addressed a number of issues related to contemporary journalistic practice, including the media’s responsibility in building public trust and the importance of verifying news sources before publication, in addition to the impact of digital speed on the professional standards governing journalistic work. He emphasized that credibility is no longer linked to the speed of accessing the news, but rather to the media institution’s ability to provide accurate, reliable, and verifiable information.
This interview comes in the context of the scientific and media presence of Karbala Polytechnic College, and its keenness to open up to contemporary intellectual and professional issues. It also aims to enhance the role of university media in discussing the transformations witnessed by the media and communication field, in alignment with the directions of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in supporting knowledge and responsible institutional communication.
