The institute was established in 1988 in the province of Karbala, initially offering two departments: Mechanical Technology and Accounting. The first academic year (1988–1989) enrolled 450 students in the Mechanical Department and 218 students in the Accounting Department. Since its inception, the institute has experienced substantial growth in both student enrollment and the expansion of academic departments.
The institute confers a technical diploma upon its graduates, equivalent to three years of study, which includes two full academic years of coursework in addition to a year dedicated to summer internship training. The institute employs a curriculum-based educational system, prioritizing practical training over theoretical instruction within its academic programs.
The institute’s primary objective is to develop skilled technical personnel in the fields of technology, management, and healthcare, preparing them for middle-management roles across various sectors. This is achieved by delivering a specialized technical education designed to enhance both the competencies and distinctive capabilities of its graduates, enabling them to adapt to and contribute effectively within evolving scientific and technological landscapes.
The institute is located in the Al-Jadwal Al-Gharbi area, east of Karbala Governorate, and is situated approximately 13 km away from the city, along the road connecting the governorates of Karbala and Babylon.
