In harmony with the strategy of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in enhancing scientific and research cooperation and exchanging expertise among academic institutions, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hakim Tartib Kadhim, a faculty member at Karbala Polytechnic College, participated as a member of the Master’s thesis discussion committee at the Engineering Technical College / Najaf, presented by student Asaad Sabri Majeed.

The thesis addressed a vital topic in the field of electric vehicles, which are considered among the promising solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and address the global energy crisis, especially with the increasing reliance on lithium-ion batteries due to their high energy density and advanced operational efficiency.

The study indicated that achieving optimal performance for these batteries and ensuring their safety requires the adoption of effective thermal management systems, given the generation of noticeable amounts of heat during operation. It also pointed out the challenges facing current cooling systems in maintaining the appropriate thermal range and achieving thermal homogeneity, especially in cases of fast charging in short times, ensuring energy use efficiency.

The thesis relied on analyzing the numerical and practical aspects of the latest battery thermal management techniques, focusing on studying thermal performance sensitivity, the effect of cooling intensity, and the use of Phase Change Materials (PCM) in reducing the maximum temperature. Furthermore, it examined direct cooling techniques and their role in improving the thermal performance efficiency of batteries.

This activity comes within the framework of the directions of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aimed at elevating the quality of scientific research and enhancing academic integration among universities, contributing to supporting sustainable development paths.
