The Department of Community Health Techniques at Karbala Polytechnic College held a training program within the Job Qualification Plan titled: “Chemical Hazards and Prevention Methods.” The program was presented by Assistant Lecturer Amani Nazem, with the participation of a group of students and staff members.
The training addressed the significant role of chemicals in daily life and their wide-ranging uses in agriculture, industry, medicine, and cleaning, contrasted with the health and environmental risks that may result from their misuse or improper storage, such as poisoning, skin burns, respiratory and eye irritation, and long-term environmental damage.
The program also emphasized the necessity of following occupational safety procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to instructions found on warning labels for each substance, with the aim of enhancing preventive awareness and protecting both humans and the environment. The program concluded with an interactive discussion session, falling within the framework of the department’s efforts to establish a culture of safety and spread health awareness among students and staff.
