About the Department

The Information Technology Engineering Department was established in 1999, admitting no less than (40) male and female students that year. During that time, economic conditions were unfavorable due to the lack of sufficient devices and computers to expand the department's student capacity compared to the present day. Evening studies were introduced in 2000-2001 due to the need of some state departments for this specialization, as the labor market required it to keep pace with the scientific developments occurring in the fields of computers and informatics. The department has organized numerous specialized preliminary and advanced training courses in computer use and software for various segments of society, the unemployed, and state departments such as the Health, Post, and Telecommunications departments in Karbala Province. The department aspires to provide specialized scientific and consultative services in computers and informatics to state institutions.

Pioneering in teaching information technology and providing qualified technical cadres that meet the requirements of the labor market and keep pace with technological developments at both local and regional levels.

The Information Technology Department aims to prepare graduates who possess theoretical and practical skills in the field of information technology through flexible educational programs encompassing two paths (Diploma and Bachelor's). The mission focuses on quality, innovation, practical training, and providing bridging opportunities to develop the professional and educational trajectories of the students.


  • Offering a two-year diploma program that provides students with the practical and theoretical fundamentals of information technology, fulfilling the initial requirements of the labor market.

  • Providing a flexible bridging path that allows graduates of the diploma program to complete an additional two years of study to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, in accordance with approved academic regulations.

  • Enhancing the technical and professional competencies of students by integrating practical training and applied projects into the study curricula.

  • Keeping pace with rapid developments in the information technology field by continuously updating curricula and building partnerships with technical and industrial institutions.

  • Encouraging creative thinking and teamwork, and developing students' personal and effective communication skills.

  • Developing the capabilities of the teaching staff and the educational environment to ensure the quality of education and stimulate continuous research and development.

  • Meeting the needs of society and the labor market by graduating cadres capable of contributing to the development of digital infrastructure and information services.

A graduate of the Diploma program in Information Technology is a qualified technician possessing a strong knowledge base in the fundamentals of computing, programming, databases, networks, and system maintenance. The graduate has practical skills that enable them to perform basic technical tasks in various work environments, such as technical support, developing simple software, managing operating systems, and participating in technical work teams.


The graduate is characterized by the ability to:



  • Use basic software and technical tools efficiently.

  • Apply theoretical concepts to solve common technical problems.

  • Communicate effectively within work teams.

  • Deal with modern information and communication technologies within the work environment.


The graduate is qualified to work in technical support centers, IT companies, and government and private institutions. They can also complete their academic studies through the bridging program to obtain a Bachelor's degree.

A graduate of the Bachelor's program in Information Technology is a specialist who possesses advanced cognitive and practical skills that qualify them to design, develop, and manage integrated information systems, and deal with modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, information security, and software development.


The graduate is characterized by the ability to:



  • Analyze complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.

  • Design and develop advanced applications and information systems.

  • Manage databases, networks, and digital infrastructures.

  • Apply information security standards in various work environments.

  • Work efficiently within multidisciplinary teams and lead technical projects.

The graduate is qualified to work in advanced specialized positions such as a systems developer, data analyst, network administrator, or cybersecurity specialist, or in the fields of education and training. They can also pursue postgraduate studies.
