The division was established in 1988 and consists of the following sections :

1.Technical Training Unit

3.Computers and Networks Maintenance Unit, which includes :

     – Computers Maintenance Unit

    – Network Unit

4.Systems and Software Unit, which includes :

   – Software Unit

 – Systems and Database Development Unit

 

Key Responsibilities of the Unit:

1.Computerization of Exam Committee Data and continuous follow-up.

2.Membership in the Central Examination Committee.

3.Development of computer systems and software to automate administrative tasks such as payroll programs, student affairs systems, and library systems, among others.

4.Organizing development courses for institute staff and other employees from the Technical Education Authority and Karbala Governorate institutions.

5.Training computer center staff by nominating them for courses both inside and outside Iraq.

6.Supervision of the unit’s work in the electronic computing field, ensuring smooth operation and fulfillment of its tasks.

7.Providing technical opinions regarding contracts related to computing.

8.Signing official correspondence with other institutes’ computing units and relevant entities.

9.Granting regular leave (up to 3 days) for unit staff within Iraq.

10.Supervision of courses organized by the unit for internal and external entities.

11.Signing promotion and annual allowance forms for the unit staff as the direct supervisor.

12.Exercising any powers delegated by the Dean.

Responsibilities of the Technical Training Unit:

1.Preparing regular reports on the training courses conducted in the Electronic Computing Center.

2.Monitoring the course management system and updating data regularly.

3.Supervising labs in the Electronic Computing Center, ensuring equipment maintenance, lab cleanliness, and submitting weekly reports to the Center Manager to comply with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice).

4.Preparing comprehensive schedules for courses at the Computing Center, including details on instructors, course timings, dates, and venues.

5.Distributing training folders to local government offices and Iraqi universities.

6.Monitoring computer efficiency exams and English language proficiency tests.

7.Registering participants according to the type of course.

8.Organizing course schedules.

9.Conducting special courses for government employees.

10.Preparing specific exams for each course based on its content.

11.Issuing certificates for each participant.

12.Managing and distributing course revenues to all instructors.

13.Preparing quarterly and annual reports in collaboration with the Planning Unit.

 

Responsibilities of the Website Development Unit:

1. Designing, programming, and managing the official website of the University of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, along with the websites of colleges, departments, research centers, journals, and conferences.

2. Overall supervision of the university’s websites and updating data in collaboration with all website administrators at the university.

3. Designing systems for the official website.

4. Managing the university’s email system and providing email accounts to all staff of the University of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University.

5. Monitoring and supervising the university’s media activities and publishing content.

6. Enhancing the university’s website SEO and creating backlinks to support its ranking.

7. Providing support to other units under the Computing Center when needed.

8. Supporting the university’s social media pages (Facebook, Twitter) and sharing university news.

9. Supporting the university’s YouTube channel with news, advertisements, and educational videos.

10. Publishing official and urgent announcements.

 

Responsibilities of the Computers and Networks Maintenance Unit:

The units within this section ensure the proper functioning of the university’s computers and create an optimal networking environment. They also offer consultancy services in this field.

 

Computers Maintenance Unit:

1. Maintaining computers and associated equipment.

2. Supplying necessary items for computer setup based on the needs of the beneficiary entities and providing technical consultancy.

3. Maintaining printers, UPS devices, and other electrical equipment in the Computing Center and in the university’s departments upon request.

4. Installing and setting up computers and peripherals.

5. Configuring and cloning software related to beneficiary entities.

6. Keeping up-to-date with the latest software releases that enhance work efficiency and data security.

7. Organizing specialized maintenance courses.

8. Providing technical consulting.

 

Network Unit:

1. Installing and maintaining networks, including the university’s intranet.

2. Maintaining and partially installing the university’s network.

3. Maintaining server computers and their software.

4. Organizing specialized training courses in networking.

5. Installing and operating network servers.

6. Monitoring the internet systems in the university’s departments and preparing internet usage reports for the university and its departments.

7. Supervising the intranet labs and organizing courses related to these labs.

8. Assisting in research by utilizing the internet to gather the latest scientific research.

9. Supporting faculty and students on how to use the internet for their research needs.

10. Conducting training courses on using the internet.

 

Responsibilities of the Systems and Software Unit:

1. Identifying the educational institution’s needs for computerization and overseeing information technology tasks.

2. Reviewing the current systems to identify gaps and requirements.

3. Coordinating work between beneficiary departments, the Systems Analysis Unit, and the Systems and Database Development Unit.

 

Responsibilities of the Systems Analysis Unit:

1. Analyzing system requirements based on input from both users and analysts.

2. Defining the necessary system inputs.

3. Agreeing on the type of outputs and reports required.

4. Filtering requirements from essential to detailed.

5. Building a system model.

6. Consulting with colleges, departments, and institutes to determine their system needs.

7. Proposing software systems and approving the development of advanced systems.

8. Supervising systems developed by other departments at the university.

9. Coordinating with other units and departments to ensure smooth progress.

10. Maintaining and documenting the developed software.

11. Estimating the timeline and number of programmers needed for system design.

12. Organizing meetings with users and relevant departments to finalize system requirements.

13. Delivering the final system output to the Systems and Database Development Unit.

 

Responsibilities of the Systems and Database Development Unit:

1. Receiving the output from the Systems Analyst and assigning appropriate staff to the unit.

2. Selecting the suitable programming language for the system and setting the timeline for design completion.

3. Ensuring the system’s operational validity.

4. Monitoring the system’s performance after handover to the relevant departments.

5. Requesting adjustments to the system as needed, based on feedback from the beneficiaries after testing.
