Established in 1988, the IT Division comprises specialized units for technical training, web development, maintenance, and software systems. It automates administrative workflows by developing payroll, student affairs, and library systems, while managing the university’s official digital presence. The division installs internal networks and maintains computer laboratories to ensure operational efficiency and quality standards. Additionally, it provides professional development for state employees and specialized training for its internal staff. Its expertise extends to database analysis, system modeling, and the digitalization of examination committee data. Through these functions, the division ensures the modernization and technical integrity of the university’s infrastructure. Ultimately, it serves as a technical hub for innovation and institutional data management.

Division Structure


  1. Digitalizing and following up on data related to the examination committee.

  2. Membership in the Central Examination Committee.

  3. Developing computer systems and software to automate administrative work, such as payroll programs, student affairs systems, library systems, and others.

  4. Organizing development courses for college staff and other units of the Technical Education Commission and Karbala Governorate departments.

  5. Training computer center staff by nominating them for courses both inside and outside Iraq.

  6. Supervising the division's work regarding electronic computer affairs and monitoring workflow to ensure the fulfillment of unit tasks.

  7. Following up on and providing technical opinions for contracts concluded by the college related to computers.

  8. Signing correspondence with computer units in other departments and entities regarding matters related to the unit.

  9. Granting regular leave for unit employees for up to 3 days within Iraq.

  10. Supervising courses held by the unit for both internal and external parties.

  11. Signing promotion forms and annual increments for unit employees as their direct supervisor.

  12. Exercising any other powers authorized by the Dean.


  1. Designing, programming, and managing the official website of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, along with websites for colleges, departments, research centers, journals, and conferences.

  2. Providing general supervision of the university's websites and updating data through mutual cooperation among all site administrators.

  3. Designing specialized systems for the official website.

  4. Managing the university email system and providing all university personnel with official email accounts.

  5. Monitoring the media activities of the colleges and directly supervising the publishing process.

  6. Working on the university website rankings and creating backlinks to support these classifications.

  7. Providing support to other divisions within the Computer Center when needed.

  8. Supporting social media pages (Facebook and others) and publishing university news on them.

  9. Supporting the YouTube channel with news, advertisements, and educational videos.

  10. Publishing official and urgent announcements.


  1. Preparing periodic reports regarding the courses held at the Electronic Computer Center on a regular basis.

  2. Monitoring the course management system by updating the entered data.

  3. Supervising the laboratories within the Electronic Computer Center in terms of equipment, maintenance, and cleanliness, and submitting weekly reports to the Center Director to ensure compliance with (GLP) standards.

  4. Preparing comprehensive schedules for courses held at the Computer Center, including lecturers, session times, dates, and locations.

  5. Distributing specialized brochures for the courses held at the Computer Center to provincial departments and Iraqi universities.

  6. Overseeing courses, competitive computer proficiency exams, and English language proficiency exams.

  7. Registering participants according to their requested course type.

  8. Organizing the scheduling and timing of courses.

  9. Organizing specialized courses specifically for state department employees.

  10. Preparing specialized examination questions for each course based on its specific type.

  11. Issuing specialized certificates for every participant.

  12. Calculating and distributing course revenues to all participating lecturers.

  13. Preparing quarterly and annual reports for the unit every six months in cooperation with the Planning Unit to provide updates on the latest course developments.


  1. Maintaining, installing, and equipping computers and all peripheral devices to ensure operational efficiency.

  2. Repairing printers, UPS units, electrical equipment, and other accessories within the Computer Center, presidency departments, and colleges upon request.

  3. Providing the necessary requirements for computer preparation and installing software as per the needs of the beneficiary parties.

  4. Following up on the latest global software releases to protect data and keep pace with global developments in computer usage.

  5. Installing and maintaining the university's internal network (Intranet) and managing network servers.

  6. Monitoring the operation of internet systems and services across university colleges and preparing reports on internet usage.

  7. Directly supervising Intranet laboratories, ensuring their cleanliness and maintenance to meet quality standards (GLP).

  8. Organizing specialized training courses in the fields of maintenance, networking, and internet usage.

  9. Assisting researchers (faculty and students) in utilizing the internet to access the latest scientific research.

  10. Providing technical consultations and searching for any information requested by the Computer Center using the internet.


  1. Communicating with colleges and departments to determine their needs for proposed and advanced software systems.

  2. Holding meetings between the analyst and the beneficiary entity to analyze requirements from both perspectives.

  3. Extracting necessary inputs and agreeing on the types of outputs and reports required for the system.

  4. Filtering requirements progressively from core essentials to fine details to build a system model.

  5. Defining the time frame required for system design and the number of programmers needed for each project.

  6. Providing technical supervision for systems designed by other university departments.

  7. Maintaining continuous coordination with other units and departments to ensure the completion of programming work.

  8. Maintaining, saving, and documenting programming works to ensure operational continuity.

  9. Delivering the final analytical outputs to the Systems and Database Construction Unit.

  10. Assigning programming tasks to appropriate staff and selecting the suitable programming languages for each system.

  11. Defining system access permissions and monitoring performance upon delivery to the relevant entities.

  12. Conducting final testing by the beneficiary and issuing instructions for immediate modifications if necessary.

  13. Digitalizing and following up on examination committee data to ensure a smooth administrative workflow.
