As part of its training programs aimed at enhancing digital security awareness, the Department of Information Technology Engineering Techniques at Karbala Polytechnic College organized a workshop titled “Utilizing Cybersecurity Tools for Database Protection.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Jenan Jader Msaad and attended by several faculty and staff members.

The workshop aimed to empower participants—regardless of their technical backgrounds—by helping them understand cyber threats targeting databases and demonstrating how to utilize modern tools and techniques to counter them.

The session covered a range of vital practical topics, most notably:

  • Phishing Attacks and Human Errors: Such as the loss of physical storage media.
  • Ransomware: Analyzing its impact on encrypting sensitive data.
  • Protection Tools and Techniques: Exploring Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Firewalls, and Access Control Lists (ACLs) acting as security checkpoints.
  • Regular Data Backups: Emphasizing their importance in ensuring data recovery during emergencies.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants acquired several practical skills and key outcomes, including the ability to identify primary database threats, understand essential protection tools, apply cybersecurity principles within the workplace, recognize indicators of cyberattacks, and take appropriate preventive measures to ensure the integrity of information systems.
