Prof. Dr. Ali Hadi Al-Obaidi from Karbala Polytechnic College participated in the discussion of a doctoral dissertation presented by PhD student Ahmed Safaa Hamza in the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering – University of Babylon. This was part of the requirements for obtaining a doctoral degree in the civil engineering specialization. The dissertation was titled: “Strengthening and Repairing Beams for Shear Resistance Using the Integration of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete and Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Bars.”

The dissertation aims to study and evaluate the efficiency of strengthening and repairing weak or damaged reinforced concrete beams in resisting shear stresses. This is done by adopting the technique of integrating Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bars, which contributes to improving the structural behavior of the beams, increasing load capacity and ductility, and reducing cracks caused by loads.

This activity comes in the context of joint scientific efforts between Karbala Polytechnic College and Iraqi universities to support scientific research and develop innovative engineering applications that meet the needs of the construction sector.
