In harmony with its strategy aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and establishing the concepts of sustainable development in the academic and societal environment, the Mechanical Technology Engineering Department at Karbala Polytechnic College organized a workshop titled “Environmental Pollution: Risks and Pathways Toward a More Sustainable Environment,” with the participation of a number of department staff and staff from administrative divisions and units.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the risks of environmental pollution and its health, economic, and social impacts, while explaining its main causes and ways to mitigate it. Furthermore, it aimed to enhance the culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility among participants, contributing to the support of community initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development for future generations.

The workshop, lectured by Asst. Lect. Hussein Mohammed Sadiq Jaafar, included an illustrative presentation covering the concept of environmental pollution and its main types, along with a discussion of the most prominent health and environmental risks resulting from it. It also reviewed a set of practical solutions and successful experiences in the field of reducing pollution and enhancing the principles of sustainability, as well as opening the door for dialogue and interventions to exchange views and experiences among the participants.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer called for the necessity of concerted efforts between institutions and individuals to reduce the manifestations of environmental pollution. He emphasized working to adopt eco-friendly behaviors and committing to environmental legislation and instructions, as well as supporting initiatives and projects that contribute to achieving sustainability and preserving natural resources for future generations.

This activity comes in the context of the directions of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aimed at elevating the quality of university education and enhancing the role of academic institutions in serving society and supporting sustainable development issues.
