The Medical Laboratory Technology Department at Karbala Polytechnic College held a scientific workshop titled “First Aid for Choking,” aimed at raising professional awareness among students and enhancing their ability to handle emergency cases properly.
The workshop was presented by Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Haboubi, Asst. Prof. Dr. Soraya Amer Habib, and Asst. Lect. Zahra Qais Jassim. The program included a systematic scientific presentation on the causes of choking and methods of initial diagnosis, alongside an explanation of the adopted steps for First Aid according to correct medical foundations.
The workshop also focused on the practical application of the Heimlich maneuver and the safe procedures to be followed when dealing with an injured person, in line with adopted scientific standards for emergencies.
The workshop contributed to enhancing the students’ practical skills and establishing principles of rapid response and professional handling of critical cases, reflecting positively on their readiness to work in health institutions in the future.
